Windowed UI Update — a0.5.0

Panels are now floating windows you can drag. Recruit cards got a full redesign. The inventory has slot filters. And your recruits now rank up from arena wins.

a0.5.0 is live. This update is about making the island feel less like a series of menus and more like a workspace you can arrange.

Floating Panels

Every panel on the island is now a draggable floating window. Grab any panel by its title bar and move it wherever you want. Open multiple panels at once — roster and recruit detail side by side, chest next to the building info. Click any panel to bring it to the front. Press Escape to dismiss the topmost one.

Previously panels anchored themselves to fixed screen regions and fought each other for space. That’s gone. You place them where they make sense for what you’re doing, and they stay there until you close them.

When you open a panel from scratch it starts near the center, offset slightly from any already-open panels so they cascade rather than stack exactly on top of each other.

Recruit Roster Cards

The roster grid used to have uneven cards — recruits with three traits pushed their card taller than recruits with one trait, making the grid look jagged. That’s fixed.

All cards are now the same height. Traits appear as small colored tabs: green for upsides, red for downsides. Hovering a tab shows what it does. The rank is in the corner; the second line shows weapon type and win progress. Below the traits: whether the recruit is working or idle, and how many items they have equipped. Strain stays at the bottom.

The market cards follow the same layout, so comparing a hire against your existing roster is a straight comparison.

Inventory Filters

The chest panel now has a slot filter bar at the top. Click Weapon, Head, Chest, or any other slot to show only items of that type. Click All to clear the filter.

If you’re in the recruit detail panel and open the chest from there, the title shows the recruit’s name and the filter defaults to showing all items relevant to that context. The item tooltips — with stat deltas showing whether an item is an upgrade — carry over unchanged from a0.4.0.

Recruit Detail Cleanup

The chest view has been pulled out of the recruit detail panel and lives in the inventory panel now. The detail panel focuses on what it’s supposed to: traits, stats, building assignment, equipped gear, and the arena/dismiss buttons. Less scrolling to find what you’re looking for.

Rank Progression

Recruit ranks now advance from arena wins rather than being static. Every five wins earns a rank, up to rank 5. The roster card shows your progress toward the next rank at a glance. Rank still multiplies HP and attack the same way — this just makes the path there explicit and something you’re working toward actively.

Resource Rate Preview

The resource panel on the left now shows a green +N next to each material that your buildings are actively producing. If your farmland is generating wheat, you see the tick rate next to the stockpile count. Nothing you couldn’t calculate manually, but now you don’t have to.

What’s Next

Rift runs: a timed push through scaling enemies where your rift level cleared is your rank. Rift drops are already wired to yield colored items (tier 2+) — crafting always gives gray, rift rewards are how you get green, blue, and purple.
